In the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam’s pangasius industry has shown remarkable growth, with total export value reaching approximately USD 1.4 billion, up 10% year-on-year. Among these, HS03 products (fresh, frozen, dried) dominate, accounting for nearly 98% of all pangasius exports.
Frozen pangasius fillets (HS0304) remain the star product, contributing more than USD 1.1 billion in export turnover, a growth of 11% compared to the same period last year. This clearly reflects that Vietnam’s pangasius export success is still highly dependent on a single product line.
Meanwhile, value-added processed products (HS16) such as surimi, fish balls, and breaded pangasius are gradually gaining attention. Though their proportion is still modest, growth has reached around 32%, showing positive signals for diversification.
Vietnam’s pangasius exports to China and Hong Kong fell by about 4%, demonstrating the risks of over-reliance on one market. On the other hand, the CPTPP bloc recorded growth of up to 36%, becoming a new driving force. South America, the U.S., and the EU also offer promising prospects.
These shifts highlight an important point: to sustain long-term growth, exporters must expand into multiple markets, invest in value-added products, and enhance compliance with international regulations.
Beyond product quality, efficient logistics plays a decisive role in ensuring Vietnamese pangasius maintains competitiveness in global markets. This is especially true for frozen fillets, where cold chain integrity and punctual delivery directly affect product value and buyer confidence.
