Vietnam Import-Export Strong Growth in the First 8 Months, Outlook for Year-End

02/10/2025 23:41

Robust Trade Performance
In the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam’s total import-export turnover reached nearly USD 598 billion, marking a growth of 16.3% compared to the same period last year. Of this, exports contributed USD 292.99 billion (+14.8%), while imports stood at USD 304.94 billion (+17.9%).

This strong growth reflects Vietnam’s resilience in international trade despite global challenges, from supply chain disruptions to geopolitical uncertainties. The trade balance remained relatively stable, with imports slightly exceeding exports – a positive sign for domestic production, as raw materials and machinery are being imported to serve manufacturing.

Key Highlights

  • 29 export items have surpassed USD 1 billion each in turnover.
  • 7 products (including electronics, textiles, phones, and footwear) exceeded USD 10 billion, contributing nearly 68% of total exports.
  • The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector continued to shine, with growth of around 12%, reinforcing Vietnam’s position as a key global supplier of food and farm products.
  • The foreign-invested sector (FDI enterprises) remained a crucial driver, accounting for nearly 70% of total export turnover.

Opportunities and Risks Ahead
Vietnam is on track to approach the ambitious milestone of USD 800 billion in total trade value by the end of 2025. However, there are important challenges to address:

  • Global market volatility: Economic slowdown in major economies, including the EU and China, may affect demand.
  • Trade barriers and technical standards: Exporters must comply with stricter requirements related to origin, environmental protection, and food safety.
  • Import dependency: Heavy reliance on imported raw materials creates vulnerability to global price fluctuations.

To maintain growth, Vietnam needs to diversify export markets, strengthen domestic supply chains, and enhance product competitiveness through quality and branding.

The Critical Role of Logistics
Beyond production capacity, one of the most decisive factors for sustainable growth lies in logistics efficiency. As supply chains become more complex and global markets demand faster and stricter delivery standards, logistics is not just a service – it is a competitive advantage.

Fox Logistics stands at the forefront of supporting Vietnamese businesses in this transformation:

  • Comprehensive cold chain solutions: reefer container shipping, temperature monitoring, and efficient storage.
  • Global freight forwarding: strong network connections to the U.S., EU, Japan, China, and other key markets.
  • Customs clearance & compliance support: ensuring smooth export procedures and meeting international standards.
  • Cost optimization strategies: helping businesses stay competitive despite rising logistics expenses.
