Vietnam’s Agro-Forestry-Fishery Exports Surpass USD 30.6 Billion in the First Five Months of 2026

Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery sector continued its strong growth momentum in the first five months of 2026, with total export turnover reaching an estimated USD 30.69 billion, up 9.2% year-on-year. The positive performance highlights the resilience and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in global markets.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, imports of agro-forestry-fishery products reached USD 22.28 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 8.41 billion, an increase of 1.1% compared to the same period last year.

Key Export Categories Continue to Grow

Agricultural products remained the largest contributor, generating USD 16.38 billion in export value, up 6.1% year-on-year. Meanwhile, forestry products reached USD 7.65 billion, increasing 4.5%, and seafood exports climbed to USD 4.65 billion, marking a strong 10.6% growth.

One of the most notable performances came from the livestock sector, which recorded export revenue of USD 308 million, soaring 43.2% compared to the previous year. In addition, exports of agricultural production inputs reached USD 1.7 billion, up 83%, reflecting growing demand across international markets.

China Remains the Largest Export Market

China continued to be Vietnam’s largest destination for agro-forestry-fishery exports, accounting for 20.5% of total export turnover and posting an impressive 28.4% growth year-on-year. The United States ranked second with an 18.5% share, although export value to the market declined slightly by 3.6%.

Other major markets also maintained positive growth. Exports to the European Union (EU) increased 4.2%, while shipments to Japan rose 3.5%, demonstrating the continued diversification of Vietnam’s export markets.

Positive Outlook for the Remainder of 2026

The strong export performance achieved during the first five months of the year provides a solid foundation for Vietnam’s agricultural sector to pursue its growth targets for 2026. With rising global demand, expanding market access, and ongoing improvements in product quality and traceability, Vietnam remains well-positioned to strengthen its role as a leading supplier of agricultural, forestry, and seafood products worldwide.
