USD 2 BILLION CAI MEP HA MEGA PORT – A STRATEGIC BOOST FOR VIETNAM’S LOGISTICS

01/04/2026 23:38

A large-scale port infrastructure project is being proposed in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, where a consortium led by Geleximco Group plans to invest nearly USD 2 billion in developing the Cai Mep Ha mega port.

The project is expected to serve as an international transshipment hub within the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water port cluster, one of the most strategically located maritime zones in southern Vietnam.

Enhancing national logistics competitiveness

The development of Cai Mep Ha is anticipated to:

  • Significantly expand cargo handling capacity
  • Reduce congestion at existing ports
  • Accommodate larger vessels
  • Strengthen Vietnam’s position in regional supply chains

In an increasingly competitive global trade environment, modern port infrastructure plays a critical role in improving logistics efficiency and supporting export growth.

Opportunities for exporters and importers

Large-scale port developments like Cai Mep Ha will bring tangible benefits to businesses:

  • Shorter international transit times
  • Improved direct connectivity to major shipping routes
  • Reduced logistics costs through minimized transshipment
  • Greater flexibility in export planning

This project marks a key step toward positioning Vietnam as a regional logistics hub.
